... And We have Eyes to See

December 10, 2006 : 19 Dhul Qadah 1427 H

Bismillaahi was-salaatu was-salaamu 'alaa Rasoolillaah. Wa ba'd:

Last night I was moved to tears upon the sight of a blind brother reciting Soorah Muhammad so beautifully, mashaa`Allaah laa quwwata illaa billaah. This brother is like many who have not the blessing to be able to see the words of Allaah in print - they are not able to follow the printed words with their fingers in the way we are able to. They either solely rely upon listening to recitation or, for some of the more fortunate, the ability to read with a Braille copy of the Qur`aan.

I cried profusely upon seeing and hearing the brother reciting the Words of the Almighty. He had memorised the soorah with dedication and sincere love of Allaah - he cannot see the Words, but I could see that he could see the beauty of them.

SubhaanAllaah.

... and we have eyes to see, yet many of us fail to see the beauty of that which Allaah has revealed to us, both by failing to recite it and by failing to ponder and act upon it.

The Prophet Muhammad (sallallaahu 'alayhi w sallam) cried when he said:

"O my Lord! Verily, my people deserted this Qur'ân (neither listened to it, nor acted on its laws and orders). [Soorah al-Furqaan (25): 30]

May Allaah forgive us all our sins and make us true companions of the Qur`aan, aameen.

Ameen. SubhanAllah, it's amazing to think of the companions and those that came after them preserving the knowledge of the Quran, its recitation, and its meanings so precisely in their hearts and on paper that even now I have a mushaf in my hand and the parts I have memorized that I recite in salaah. Alhamdulillah.
