:: The Joys of Motherhood! ::

As I gaze down at young Junayd suckling, I recall a conversation that I had with my mother when i was 'sweet 16':

"I don't want to become a lawyer, I just want to get married and have loads of babies!"

Of course, the expression on my then 36 year-old mother's face implied complete and utter shock. Now, less than 5 year's down the line, the legacy of child-bearing has begun. My youthful innocence and ambition back then could never have prepared me for the long days and short nights of motherhood. Then it sounded oh so easy. The reality of it all has yet to kick in.

Only last night I said to my hubby: "'Azeezee, Junayd's already a month old!", yet the memory of when he first arrived into this world are still fresh in our minds - well, at least in mine. The 8-month pregancy seemed so long, yet so short, but the result of it all is a peaceful son who only cries for a feed, clothes or diaper change or when he is in need of my hubby's unique entertainment.

Now, with less than 6 hours sleep each night, I can only smile at my son, for I expect it cannot and probably will not be easy to raise offspring who will, inshaa`Allaah, be amongst the Shuhadaa and be a way for my hubby and I to gain Paradise. Therefore, I'll continue striving and praying for Allaah's Assistance and Mercy to make us amongst those who do that which is pleasing to Him. For I pray that my struggles now will bear fruit in the Hereafter.

Oh the joys of motherhood!
