Du'aa & Seeking Protection

Bismillaahi was-salaatu was-salaamu 'alaa Rasoolillaah. Wa ba'd:

My experiences last weekend (9th & 10th June) at AlKauthar's fifth London course Lord of the Worlds are indescribable. I came away feeling intoxicated with the knowledge Shaykh Yasir Qadhi had imparted to us.

SubhaanAllaah.

We think we know Allaah just because we know the three categories of tawheed and we think we know what constitutes as shirk. But this course taught me and many of the my fellow students that we do not. How can we possibly worship Allaah when we do not even know Him? We do not know the correct avenues to seek closeness to Him; we do not fully comprehend His Majesty and superiority. Then there are those who worship others alongside Him and worse still, worship others but Him - may Allaah protect us from such acts, aameen.

Inshaa`Allaah I plan to share my notes here in forthcoming weeks - there is so much to digest, but I thought I would share this with you, from the Shaykh's book: Du'aa: The Weapon of the Believer.

"Du'aa and the seeking of Protection from Allaah are like weapons, but the sharpness of a weapon is not sufficient for it to cause effect, for the person who handles it also plays a role. So whenever the weapon is a perfect one, having no flaw in it, and the forearm strong, and there are no preventing factors, then it will cause an affect on the enemy..." - Ibn Qayyim al-Jawziyyah

As you can see, this is not about fighting on the battlefield, but rather it is the fight against our well-known enemy, Shaytaan.

There are numerous du'aa and adhkaar (plural of dhikr) that the Prophet (sallallaaahu 'alayhi wa sallam) taught us, and many may also be found in the Qur`aan. However, we will find that although we have been given the best weapons to fight Shaytaan and his crew, it is us who are lacking - hence, the effect of our weapon is weak.

Those were simply some words to chew on - chew them for long enough, then swallow and allow them to penetrate your body and excel through your actions.

Wa subhaanak Allaahumma wa bihamdik. Ash-hadu al-laa illaaha illa ant. Astaghfiruka, wa atoobu ilayk.

As Salaam Walakium Rahamatullahi Wa'baraketuh Sis Umm Junayd,

I also agree with you in that the problem with the ummah today is that we are far from the sunnah of the Prophet (pbuh) and number one we don't know our creator. How do we ever expect to love, fear, and hope in Allah if we don't even know who He is? We have been consumed with only the five pillars of Islam that of course are obligations on us that we owe Allah (swt). But what about learning our deen and trying to understand it and implementing it into our lives? We think that shirk is just praying to a statue or doing magic etc. but as you have learned in the seminar shirk goes a lot deeper than that. Shirk in love, Shirk in worship, Shirk in dua etc.... really deep and beneficial. So that would be the steping stone for the foundation for all of us Muslims. We must know who are Creator Allah (swt) what pleases Him and what angers Him etc. And the big step then is implementing it in our daily actions. Some of us have taken the initiative to gain knowledge and understand it but leave out a crucial element the implementation of what we have learned. Subhanallah May Allah keep us guided, give us understanding and the ability to put it into action Inshallah. Amin

I love your posts Mashallah. Hugs ;)

Assalaamu 'alaykum

Also the muslim has to understand that these 'weapons' that we are given are in themselves a manifestation of tawheed. When we make du'a and recite our athkaar, we have to remember that this is worship and rememberances. The result and consequence of this tawheed is the protection.

May Allaah increase in knowledge of Himself and assist us in ihsaan in our worship. Ameen
