Eemaan Boost

Bismillaahi was-salaatu was-salaamu 'alaa Rasoolillaah. Wa ba'd:

Do you go through times when you feel low spiritually? During these times, do you struggle to pinpoint the cause for your low eemaan? At times do you fail to find that 'thing' which will raise your eemaan?

I'm sure we all go through this at times. Afterall, eemaan is a state which influctuates - sometimes it's rocket high and sometimes it hits rock bottom. Apparently, this is normal, however the question remains: what can give an eemaan boost?

Unfortunatley, I haven't got the answer to that question, but I do know what gives me an eemaan boost.

When I feel like I mentioned above I first examine two things:

1. My relationship with the Qur`aan
2. Whether I've been making du'aa and seeking istighfaar during my salaah.

I've noticed that if I haven't picked up the Qur`aan for a while or have not spent time to reflect upon its verses my heart slowly begins to harden. I feel a disconnection from Allaah. These are His Words - they should be the dearest speech to my heart. When I do take time to reflect, I feel the hardness dissolve and this in turn leads to number 2 mentioned above: making du'aa and seeking forgiveness during salaah.

I have found a particular soorah to be my main eemaan boost. In it contains verses about Allaah's Might, His Mercy, His Generosity and His Richness. This soorah is the soorah I first recite when I feel low because I realise how ungrateful I am most of the time and how I should submit wholly to Allaah not just to thank Him for all the blessings - whether great or seemingly small - He has bestowed upon me, but simply because He is the only One truly worthy of worship. What, you may ask, is this soorah? It has got to be Soorah al-Mulk (67): Tabaarakal-ladhi bi yaadihil-mulk... and the benefits of the soorah, as reported from the Prophet (sallallaahu 'alayhi wa sallam):

The Prophet (sallallaahu 'alayhi wa sallam) said, "There is a surah in the Qurfan which is only thirty verses. It defended whoever recited it, until it puts him into paradise" i.e.Surah al Mulk [Fath al Qadir 5/257, Sahihul Jamiea 1/680, Tabrani in Al-Awsat & Ibn Mardawaith]
The Prophet (sallallaahu 'alayhi wa sallam) said, "Surah al Mulk is the protector from the torment of the grave," [Sahihul Jamiea 1/680, Haakim 2/498 & Nasaa'ee]
Anas ibn Maalik (radiAllaahu 'anhu) reported Rasulullaah (sallallaahu 'alayhi wa sallam) as saying, "There is a Surah which will plead for its reciter till it causes him to enter paradise (Tabarakalladhi Biyadihil Mulk)." [Tabrani]

Of course, the entire Qur`aan is a cure for the diseases of the heart which causes result in low eemaan, however, I have found this soorah to be one which initially strikes the heart to cure it of the disease - walhamdulillaah.

Do you have an eemaan booster? Leave your thoughts inshaa`Allaah.

BarakAllah hu feeki for that post.
Yes it is soo true.. subhanaAllah..

ur two reasons.. make a lot of sense..
and are very real factors for one's decrease of Emaan.

Salam,

Longest time! Hope you and the family are well, :)

I've experienced that fluctuation countless times. I feel lazy waking up for tahajud... procrastinate over salah till the time is almost up then rush to pray... my eyes glaze over the Quran and I don't imbibe the words... etc.

At times like that I do zikr and writing. I find that these calm me and help me refocus. When I channel all the negative energy into something else I feel invigorated afterward.

Umm Hafsah: Wa feeki baarakatullaah.

Eka: *shocked* Where did you disappear to? You deleted yet another blog and began blogging again? Gosh, never - NEVER - buy your own domain. Really, I suspect you would changed the domain every few months. Glad to have you back though. Is that a ring I see on your finger?

Umm Junayd,

Thanks for this post! I have just come out of a bleak period of low imaan. I use similar methods and you and Eka to tunnel my way out!
