Food for Thought: Food for the Soul
Archived under Tazkiyyah .
A couple of years ago I was invited to give a short talk to a group of women, both Muslim and non-Muslim, on the significance of salaah. As it was a da'wah event, the audience was mainly non-Muslim women.
After my presentation, the floor was open for questions, answers and comments and a sister (may Allaah preserve her in serving Him) gave a beautiful, poignant addition to what I had said.
"Just as our bodies need food and drink to survive, so does our soul. The prayer is food for our soul." (paraphrased)
Is this not the case? Were we to be without salaah, our souls would truly feel deprived - lost. It regains life and energy after salaah. One feels invigorated and ready to take on the world. After a peaceful moment focusing on Allaahu ta'aala during such hectic days, do you not feel fresh and anew? This reminds me of what Allaah has said (interpretation of the meaning):
"...Verily in the remembrance of Allah do hearts find rest! (Soorah ar-Ra'd (13): 28)
If the heart finds rest in the remembrance of Allaah, then the salaah is truly soul food - comforting to the heart and nourishing for the soul!
Wa subhaanak Allaahumma wa bihamdik. Ash-hadu al-laa illaaha illa ant. Astaghfiruka, wa atoobu ilayk.

Your Thoughts
I always feel prayer is the driving force that keeps us focus from day to day. It's so beautifully scheduled that we live the day according to its timing. Our goals are focused around performing them. At the end of the day, having prayed all five of them with a great amount of love and zeal for Islam and Allah, you'll be happy with everything else you have achieved.
