Homeschooling & Home: Count Everything!
Archived under Homeschooling .
Some sisters have been amazed by the fact that my son can count to ten at the ripe age of 2, mashaa`Allaah. However, it didn't come about as a result of me saying "let's count together" - it was rather unintentional and I regard it as a blessing from Allaah, subhaanahu wa ta'aala.
Objective: To help young children count independently up to the number ten - enabling them to grasp the concept of quantity.
Task: Don't make it seem like one! Just count everything: the numbers of buttons on his shirt; the steps as he climbs/ descends in the house; the number of crayons in his box; the number of books you get from the library - everything!
You'll be amazed - as I am to this day - at how quick children learn. Your child will start counting on his/ her own, inshaa`Allaah, without the need for you to initiate it. Yes, there will be a few hiccups here and there and he/ she may not even be able to articulate some numbers as well as others [Junayd has a problem with six and seven], but he/ she's on the right track inshaa`Allaah.
Go wild with numbers - count everything!

SubhaanAllaah - you've got a bright little girl there mashaa`Allaah!
May Allaah make her a benefit to the Ummah, aameen.

Assalamu aleikum wa rahmatullahi wa barakaatuh
My two year old daughter also counts to ten, in three languages. I did the same as you (also without thinking of it so much, but I was encouraged by her results, mashaa Allah).
And, subhaanAllah, I noticed that when we visited my parents (when she was about 21 months) and I would count in Arabic, she refused to say it in Arabic and would count in their language instead! She translated automatically! This is probably due to the fact that ever since she was born (or around that time) I've counted outloud to ten in these three languages (and sometimes more languages) every evening, to get the boys to hurry up and get in bed before I switch the lights off!
