How Often

How often she has sat and counted
The money that she has.
How often we complain
About that which we wish we had.

Why are we never satisfied
With the little that we own?
Contentment is absent from us
Why do we consistently moan?

How often does she thank Allaah
For seeing a new day?
How often does she show gratitude
To be able to see her way?

How often has she sat and cried
For the time that she has wasted?
How often does she pray sincerely
That her tawbah has been granted?

How often do we sit and count
The blessings from our Lord?
How often do we cry to Allaah
To forgive us for the wealth we hoard?

How often do we contemplate
Upon the beauty of creation?
Too often it seems that we forget
That this world is only a resting station.
