If Only

I do have the last instalment of 'Defining Piety' to write and post, but I thought I would share this.

If Only
If only we could see
The grains
Slipping
Falling
With each second
If only we could hear
The sand
Slipping
Falling
As hours pass
If only we could feel
Precious time
Slipping
Falling
Through our fingers
As we misuse it
Use it frivolously
If only we could see
Ourselves standing
Sweating
Naked
When names are called
If only we could hear
Many mothers
Crying
Begging
Not for their babes
If only we could feel
That moment
Anxious
Fearful
As books are read
Accounting for the time
We used frivolously
If only we could see
The hands
Ticking
Striking
As they jolt round
If only we could hear
The seconds
Ticking
Striking
As we get older
If only we could feel
The emotions
Regret
Remorse
For lost moments
Irreplaceable gems
Wasted
Used frivolously
