Ramadhaan's Over: What Now?

Bismillaahi was-salaatu was-salaamu 'alaa Rasoolillaah. Wa ba'd:

On 'Eid day, I was asked - read: told - to give a reminder to the sisters about remaining steadfast after Ramadhaan. Mashaa`Allaah, the response was good and I thought that I would post an excerpt of the reminder for the benefit of the wider community inshaa`Allaah.

Ramadhaan was not only a time of fasting during the day and praying during the night, it was a time for us to remould ourselves; train ourselves and essentially 're-learn' the basics in order to strengthen our foundations so as to be sure that anything we built upon them would be firm and sturdy. It was a time when we truly tested ourselves and our devotion to Allaah and that which He has chosen for us (i.e. Islaam). During Ramadhaan we should have re-laid our foundations – so that inshaa`Allaah, during the rest of the year we are able to build upon them a sturdy house of steel that can never be crushed. However, if we are from those whose foundations were shabby, neglected and all together useless, then what will become of the rest of the building? Furthermore, let us not be like those who successfully laid solid foundations and then turned to simply shatter them into nothingness. To do this would be something more than foolishness: it is neglect and can be seen as ungratefulness to Allaah for the blessings He has given - especially the blessing to have seen another Ramadhaan.
Ramadhaan is not the only time that Allaah Sees us. It is not the only time that we are to refrain from sinful activities nor is it the only time for us to turn to Allaah in sincere repentance. Allaah is the Lord during all times, not just during Ramadhaan. Likewise, fasting, praying, reciting the Qur`aan, giving charity, guarding the tongue and private parts, modesty and all good deeds are not limited to Ramadhaan only. We are not Ramadhaan Muslims or Ramadhaan hijaabis or Ramadhaan niqaabis – we are Muslim whatever the time and wherever the place, inshaa`Allaah.

Subhaanak Allaahumma wa bihamdik. Ash-hadu al-laa illaaha illa ant. Astaghfiruka, wa atoobu ilayk.
