No matter how much you try to get rid of them, they'll remain with you. No matter how much you try to push them out of the way, they cling onto you.
So does the obligation. The obligation of helping those who are in need of your assistance.
"What can I do?" You cry helplessly. Do you not know? Do you not know about that which can be sharper than a sword, by the Will of Allaah?
And your Rabb says: "Call on Me, I will answer your prayers..."
Have you forgotten? Who Hears your whispers when the world is asleep? Who Watches you as salty-sweet streams of tears flow along the grooves of your cheeks? Is it not Allaah, the Almighty, the Ever-Watchful?
Have you forgotten that His Mercy falls upon us like rain? The Most-Merciful Hears you through the pit-patter of water sent from the sky.
Have you forgotten who you submit to? As you surrender your forelock in worship of Him, why then do you not plead?
Why is it that you forget? Why is it that you forget that you can't get rid of the shadow? That obligation to help those in need of your assistance.
Don't dust them off. Don't forget them. Call upon Allaah to help them and free them from the hands of their oppressors.
Remember: it's your shadow and it's clinging on to you.

This reminds me of the du`aa about the angels who make du`aa for the one who prays for another in his absence.
I appreciate this reminder. I just don't do enough.
