Message with No Pressure
As a writer, or an aspiring one, it's particularly important that one exposes to a variety of different writing styles as possible in order to find one's own voice. I've been trying to do some reading and the latest book I read was Harper Lee's To Kill a Mockingbird.
Now I'm not going to go into the whole plot or whatnot as you could easily find that out by doing a simple internet search. But I can say that although the novel was first published in 1960, the issues raised - namely that of race and prejudice - is one that is still relevant today. Although more that one theme is present in the book, it works extremley well in conveying the message that racial prejudice just doesn't seem to die.
This book has definitley helped me in seeing that it is possible to get a message across without being dictative.
